Easter Sunday - March 23rd, 2008

An Easter message of Faith, Hope and Love
from Pope Benedict XVI…

Easter should remind us that love has triumphed, and that we can “start again from Christ” to build a society of peace and love. “These holy days reawaken a great hope in us,” he added. “Christ was crucified, yet he rose again and conquered the world.
“Love is stronger than hate, it has triumphed and we should affiliate ourselves with this victory of love. We should therefore start again from Christ and work together with him for a world [...]

First Day of Spring - March 20th, 2008

The first official day of spring was just beautiful here in north Texas. The sunshine warmed me up and the breeze cooled me down, with a nice moderate temperature in the low 70’s. I must have driven 100 miles today and had the air conditioner on for at least half the trip, because of the greenhouse effect of the sunlight warming up the interior of the car.
I can’t wait for the spring flowers to start blooming in April, especially the bluebonnets. We already have a good start on above average rainfall, so we should be in [...]

NOAA Safety Tips for Severe Weather - March 19th, 2008

I just posted earlier about spring weather approaching, and that means spring storms. Well those storms came ripping right through Texas today. At 5:00 o’clock during evening rush hour, the Dallas Fort Worth area had the following watches and warnings from the NOAA National Weather Service:
Flash Flood Warning - Flash Flood Watch -
Flood Warning - Hazardous Weather Outlook

Local news stations reported a large number of traffic problems all over the Dallas Ft. Worth metroplex, and flooding concerns all over north Texas. Actually it’s the gulf moisture that’s coming from the south driving the rain north, creating flood [...]

Flood Safety Awareness Week - March 17th, 2008

With spring right around the corner, we need to be aware when conditions are right for severe weather. Spring storms can move in swiftly and bring dangerous wind, lightning and heavy rain. OK, I admit I’m a weather watcher, or a storm junkie. I’ve foolishly driven around during storms as a youth, in awe of nature’s awesome power.
I’m still fascinated with the power of severe weather, but now as I’ve grown older, hopefully I’m a little wiser, as I prefer to check my favorite weather website for severe weather conditions, which is the NOAA National Weather [...]

Saint Patrick’s Day - March 17th, 2008

Saint Patrick’s Day is usually celebrated on March 17th, but this year it was moved to March 15th by the Catholic Church to avoid conflict with Holy Week, which started yesterday with Palm Sunday.
I pulled this quote from Wikipedia about the event:
St. Paddy’s Day or Paddy’s Day, is an annual feast day in the Roman Catholic Church, which celebrates Saint Patrick (circa 385–461 AD,) one of the patron saints of Ireland, and is generally celebrated on March 17th.
The date of the feast is occasionally moved by church authorities when March 17 falls during Holy Week; this happened in 1940 when [...]

Palm Sunday - March 16th, 2008

Today is Palm Sunday, which begins Holy Week for the Catholic Church, and signals the end of the season of Lent. It’s the most solemn time of the year for us Christians, as we contemplate Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, His crucifixion and death, and His resurrection on Easter Sunday.
I Googled for a few sources to see what’s going on around the world:

Body of War - March 13th, 2008

This will send chills down your spine. It’s as if we’re seeing history repeat itself. The heated presidential debates, the upcoming election, conflict at home and abroad, an unpopular war, and a wounded soldier’s story.
The Film bodyofwar.com: Body of War is a documentary by Ellen Spiro and Phil Donahue. This hard hitting documentary will be screened March 13th at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas and opens in select theaters nationwide in March.

Time for change - March 13th, 2008

It really was time for a change.  I had been working the same job for eight long years without a real vacation.  To make things worse, the company had “reorganized” over the last year, and started to heap more and more chores onto our team, adding to our daily tasks.  At first it seemed OK, but then people began to quit.  One or two at first, then a flood of staff fled the sinking ship.  Then the firings began.  Nothing made sense.  General chaos ruled with major confusion the daily routine.  I became a statistic, along with many others.
Our government [...]
