Easter Sunday
An Easter message of Faith, Hope and Love
from Pope Benedict XVI…
Source: EWTN, the Eternal Word Television Network’s news page www.ewtn.com
Easter should remind us that love has triumphed, and that we can “start again from Christ” to build a society of peace and love. “These holy days reawaken a great hope in us,” he added. [...]
Saint Patrick’s Day
Saint Patrick’s Day is usually celebrated on March 17th, but this year it was moved to March 15th by the Catholic Church to avoid conflict with Holy Week, which started yesterday with Palm Sunday.
I pulled this quote from Wikipedia about the event:
St. Paddy’s Day or Paddy’s Day, is an annual feast day in the Roman [...]
Palm Sunday
Today is Palm Sunday, which begins Holy Week for the Catholic Church, and signals the end of the season of Lent. It’s the most solemn time of the year for us Christians, as we contemplate Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, His crucifixion and death, and His resurrection on Easter Sunday. [...]
Tony Blair In The Way?
I very much hope that the embittered ramblings of his aide’s father and his own Yale colleague, Professor Denys Turner, have not put Tony Blair off Opus Dei. I am a convinced admirer of Opus Dei, both as a practising Catholic and as a man firmly of the Left.Corporal mortification, to get that out of the way, is an integral part of Catholic spirituality. Catholics need to re-learn moderate self-denial on Fridays, on the Wednesdays in Lent, during Holy Week, on the eves of the Church’s greatest So
FunTime
Hubby and my Chloee enjoyed the holiday season spending at the mall to her favorite ride, crawling animal. This was taken last December '08 when hubby had a long vacation that's why they really spent a long and fun times with each other. Now hubby is back at work and made a rpomise to Chloee that on the next vacation (holy week) he will surely have a wonderful vacation again with us. Right now, hubby needs to work and work and work. Hehehe!Goodmorning!
Randomness
A couple of things: From my old acquaintance Kevin in Toledo - who was always so helpful sending along great links! - comes another which looks fascinating: Found full text online of vol. 1 of memoirs of Sarah Peter, a prominent American convert in mid-1800s. Her letters during her first trip to Rome (around pg. 170) and a Holy Week pilgrimage to the Holy Land (around pg. 220) are interesting — she was not Catholic at that time and gives many details of the liturgies, etc. Memoirs of the life o
Boracay then and now
The first time I went to Boracay was in March 2005. It was also the first time my friends and I went on a long holiday together, and the first time I flew with Seair. That trip was easily one of the most memorable trips I ever had. The first views of the island from the air, the balmy sea air and the bright sunshine that welcomed us in Caticlan, the chori burgers, the D’Mall palengke, the Tekken tournaments, the steak night, the long walks from Station 1 to Station 3, the Holy Week parties, the
We are a Holy People
By Elder George This article will appear during what some call Christmas week, Holy week, the Holidays, or The Season of Good Cheer; whatever name we choose to call it, people act more considerate, caring, jovial, and loving of one another during this period. Why does the season of year determine when we exhibit the more positive attributes of our character? Granted that religious ritual calls upon certain observances and in the process creates an increased awareness of matters spiritual, bu
Once Again, Christmas with Amahl
This morning I am once again practicing my last Advent (or first Christmas) ritual: I am listening to “Amahl and the Night Visitors.” As “Jesus Christ Superstar” has long been my Holy Week ritual, I can’t be quite ready for Christmas until I’ve heard Amahl. If you haven’t heard it before, I commend it to you. Gian Carlo Menotti composed it for the first broadcast of the Hallmark Hall of Fame on NBC. It was first broadcast on Christmas Eve, 1951, and every Christmas Eve after until 1966. It is a m
