Hanging at the Nursery

We stopped at a roadside nursery on our way into south Texas.  Don’t remember the name, but the brilliant colors drew us in, and we left with about $50 worth of plants.  This one plant is still “hanging around.”

Redefining the “pop up” book

I love books. There is no question that my kids can have too many toys, or watch too much television, or play too many video games, but they can never, ever have too many books. (In anticipation of my daughter’s library, I had my husband build a book case in the nursery. Three years later, it is chock full of books). But I have never been a big fan of books that try to be more than, well, books. I especially dislike the books that involve sound effects, or play music. I have also never loved

White Folk Need Not Apply

An interesting way to solve the immigration problem: Sabrina Steele claims a nursery in Maryville discouraged her from working at the nursery so that it could hire foreign-born workers. She was told that the job at Pope’s Plant Farm in Greenback required her to work 80 hours a week and she’d be the only English-speaking person there. Steele has filed a complaint with the Justice Department.

Citizen Scandal: Adult Women Playing With Baby Dolls

You may have heard about Reborn Dolls—the incredibly life-like tots you can make from a normal doll with just a lil’ vinyl, paint and a healthy dose of empty nest syndrome. But you can’t understand the depths of the phenomenon until you see the nursery 49-year-old Linda has made for her collection. “It’s not a crazy habit, like, you know, drinking, or some sort of, something that’s going to hurt you,” says Linda. “It’s like a hobby. And it doesn’t really hurt anybody.” Dr. Phil agrees, but it

Is Using Portable Cribs in Nurseries a Good Idea?

by JB Anthony It’s not uncommon to find some parents who want to use portable cribs as the main crib for their baby’s nursery. The best way to decide is to have a look at the pros and cons first. Although different brands and different models have varying conditions and qualities, there are some general aspects that are worth considering. Advantages Using a portable crib in a nursery is not entirely a forbidden practice. Those who do use portables in this way may have thoroughly valid reasons

Rebecca Romijn Welcomes Twins!

It’s been confirmed that Rebecca Romijn has given birth to twins by her PR rep Lewis Kay. Dolly Rebecca Rose and Charlie Tamara Tulip were born on December 28th and were sent home and doing well. Rebecca and husband Jerry O’ Conell have been waiting for this moment, “I was never a girl who dreamed about what her wedding day would be like, but I’ve always dreamed about decorating my baby’s nursery.”, Rebecca told reporters. Romijn and O’Connell will be very busy trying to juggle a new family a

2 years and counting

I honestly can’t believe how fast time has gone.  It feels like it was just yesterday that 8 of us were sitting in a church nursery dreaming about a church that would one day reach thousands of people and reconnect them to Jesus.  This Sunday marks our 2 year anniversary and those years have been an absolute blast!  We have had front row seats to some of the most amazing things we could have only dreamt of seeing. In January we made a decision in 2 weeks time to give away 3.5 weeks worth of o

Hickory, Dickory, Dork?

My interest in the etymology of words and the origin of different sayings has never waned, especially if it involves animals.  I know, I am a total dork.  Yesterday, I got thinking of the old nursery rhyme involving a rodent and a grandfather clock. However, it could have been a grandmother clock as well. Hickory dickory dock The mouse ran up the clock The clock struck one The mouse ran down Hickory dickory dock This was first published in 1744. The “hickory dickory” part is meant to mimi
