First Day of Spring
The first official day of spring was just beautiful here in north Texas. The sunshine warmed me up and the breeze cooled me down, with a nice moderate temperature in the low 70’s. I must have driven 100 miles today and had the air conditioner on for at least half the trip, because [...]
NOAA Safety Tips for Severe Weather
I just posted earlier about spring weather approaching, and that means spring storms. Well those storms came ripping right through Texas today. At 5:00 o’clock during evening rush hour, the Dallas Fort Worth area had the following watches and warnings from the NOAA National Weather Service:
Flash Flood Warning - Flash Flood Watch -

Flood Safety Awareness Week
With spring right around the corner, we need to be aware when conditions are right for severe weather. Spring storms can move in swiftly and bring dangerous wind, lightning and heavy rain. OK, I admit I’m a weather watcher, or a storm junkie. I’ve foolishly driven around during storms as a youth, [...]
Blah BLAH BLaH

I love my child, but a week straight of him home is alot to deal with. He keeps me busy, that’s for sure. He had a great Christmas, though, and he’s gotten alot of use out of his new video camera and the Nintendo DS. I did not know that you could play Mario Kart DS with someone else and not actually have to have 2 games. The only downf

Telex From Cuba by Rachel Kusner
My trip to Cuba this past spring was an illuminating and educational experience as well as an eye-opener to the social and political systems of this Caribbean country. There is so much negative attitude about Cuba in the media that to see the country up front and personal is an entirely different experience than listening to all the one-dimensional hype. Reading Telex from Cuba, by first-time author Rachel Kushner was another piece of the puzzle that integrates the power, corruption and romanti
