Texas Stadium

It’s hard to believe we’re losing another local icon. Texas Stadium, formerly the home of the Dallas Cowboys since 1971 (and many great concerts,) will be imploded on April 11th.

The demolition is scheduled for 7 a.m. April 11. The public will be allowed to view the stadium’s collapse from the red parking lot, which will open at 2 a.m.

The city will charge $25 per car and donate the proceeds to charity. The highways surrounding Texas Stadium will be closed for about 30 minutes about the time of the implosion.

Friday, April 9th at 11:30 a.m. there is “A Stadium Farewell” with honorary chairwoman Alicia Landry, widow of former Cowboys coach Tom Landry, at the Dallas Marriott Las Colinas, 223 W. Las Colinas Blvd., Irving. Tickets $75.

Sunday, April 11th:
2 a.m. – Red parking lot at Texas Stadium opens for implosion viewing. $25 parking charge.
7 a.m. – 11 year-old Casey Rogers of Terrell, pushes the button that triggers the implosion.
